BOOK STORING DEPARTMENT

The Book Storage Department is part of the Novosibirsk State University Library. The Department is primarily responsible for preserving the Library catalog as part of the University’s cultural and information heritage. This objective guides all Department activities to preserve the rich catalog with constant attention to ensure the conditions for safely storing the catalog.

Book Storage Department staff provide Library operational and bibliographic services to users in response to their information requests. The service is provided to educational and academic literature library card holders and material is distributed in the readings rooms based on user requests. Digital orders are conducted over the Internet.

On the basis of pre-orders, the Department distributes material between subsidiary Library catalogs, University departments, and divisions.

The Book Storage Department houses the main universal Library catalog. Today it consists of more than 880 thousand copies including an array of periodicals from previous years.

The Book Storage Department is in a specially equipped underground room with two tiers. There is a system of freight elevators for the delivery of material and pneumatic mail for order forms. Department staff are connected to the Library Card Section and reading rooms by intercom.

Material ordered by readers during the day is l delivered by elevators to the educational and academic material section as well as to reading rooms.
