William Shakespeare's birthday
The birthday of the great playwright William Shakespeare was celebrated very lively and excitingly in the creative student space.
An important part of the holiday was a book exhibition prepared by library staff. Here guests could get acquainted with beautifully designed editions of the main works of the Great Bard– both in the original, in English and in Russian. Sonnets, comedies, tragedies – books fit organically into the atmosphere of the event.
Celebration organized by the NSU English Language Center, it turned out to be very exciting! The participants coped well with the thematic quiz and enjoyed playing “Shakespeare’s crocodile.” and once again enjoyed the sound of poetry.
Fun, creativity, love of literature – these words can describe the birthday of a classic of English literature.
My colleagues and I discovered an interesting fact: scientists at King's College were able to determine exactly where William Shakespeare's house stood, and this happened as if as a gift for his birthday.
House in the prestigious London area of Blackfriars, next to the theater where his plays were staged, the playwright acquired in 1613. It was possible to find out the specific location of the building thanks to previously unknown archival documents, including the plan of 1668.
It turned out that Shakespeare's home was located right on the site indicated by a modern memorial plaque on St. Andrew's Hill. Previously, this mark was considered approximate, but now there is no doubt.
This find allows us to add details to the writer’s biography, because it turns out that in the later years of his life he was more closely connected with London than previously thought. William Shakespeare may have composed some of his masterpieces in this house.
And enjoy the creativity of the “Avon Swan” you can take his books from our library, for example:
