Schoolchildren's excursion to the Scientific Library of NSU
Readers of a university library are adults, very serious people who come to the reading room to work. Books are needed to prepare for important exams and for scientific work. Library – this is a rich intellectual space.
Поэтому так необычно видеть здесь звонких, любопытных до всего на свете, детей.
On April 16, the NSU Scientific Library was visited by students from grade 2 “A” Lyceum No. 130 named after. Lavrentyev, accompanied by teacher Anna Emilievna Mezentseva.
The head of the library, Tatyana Gennadievna Markova, conducted a dynamic and very informative excursion for young schoolchildren. A funny toy, Pinocchio with ABC Book, helped her captivate the children.
The modern library has spacious, bright rooms with huge panoramic windows, “white stone” spiral staircase, a lot of comfortable furniture, compact metal shelving with electric drive, silent fast elevators and, of course, many, many interesting books.
Inquisitive children's minds tried to comprehend the algorithm for recognizing books by modern robots, calculate the weight of thick book atlases “by eye”, figure out how to arrange a huge number of books and not get confused when searching for the right copy.
To the great delight of visitors and to the equal joy of librarians, authors and titles on the covers that were familiar to children were discovered. Questions poured in about what books were in the library, how editions were printed, where the most ancient volumes were kept.
The children entered the reading room carefully so as not to disturb the silence. You could hear the keys of computer keyboards clicking under the students’ fingers and the pages of new books and newspapers turning over. The guys were surprised by a trick with a paper catalog box tightly stuffed with cards, which no matter how you turn it or turn it over – impossible to empty.
Tatyana Gennadievna drew the attention of young readers to ancient specimens from a rare fund. These books are between 100 and 300 years old. There are beautiful, expensive, richly illustrated publications bound in leather, and there are less sophisticated, but interesting programs and instructions for scientific research, for example, on raising beetles. The guys learned that there are scientific monographs and textbooks that are signed by the same, well-known names as the streets in Akademgorodok: Kutateladze, Lavrentyev, Koptyug, Trofimuk, Voevodsky.
Under the supervision of parents and librarians accompanying the excursion, the children tested the operation of self-service stations – were able to issue and then return the book on their own and try out the management of sliding book storage shelving – move a huge row and open a bookcase in the right place.
At the end of the hour-long excursion, students who completed all stages received a sweet prize. In parting, the children’s parents expressed the hope that a good half of today’s high school students will definitely become NSU students and readers of such a wonderful library.
