"Biography and legacy of Aristotle"
On October 23, the NSU Scientific Library received guests.
With a fascinating open lecture “Biography and Heritage of Aristotle” Doctor of Philosophy, Director of the Institute of Philosophy and Law of the SB RAS Marina Nikolaevna Wolf spoke. (The event was a continuation of the theme “Aristotle in Russian culture: yesterday and today.”)
The lecturer spoke in a lively and interesting manner about the main stages of the great philosopher’s difficult life: studying at Plato’s Academy in Athens, serving as a mentor to Alexander the Great, and also the founding of her own school. A fresh look at the facts from the life of Aristotle, as well as an analysis of the myths that formed later about him, evoked a great response from listeners.
The lecture made it possible not only to look closely at a significant historical figure, but also to see a person who was sincerely passionate about his ideas and who steadfastly endured the vicissitudes of fate. Correlations between biographical facts and scientific and philosophical ideas provide rich material for research.
The influence exerted by the works of Aristotle (even after a long time) on other learned men: Avicenna, Francis Bacon and Gottfried Leibniz, did not go unnoticed.
All those present enjoyed the informative lecture, brilliantly and humorously conducted by Marina Nikolaevna.
After the performance, it was time for warm live communication. The guests left with anticipation of new meetings!
And the next one will take place on November 13th. We are waiting for you at the lecture “On the life and works of Plato”! At 16-15, in the classroom building, room 113a.
