Responding to current needs, some scientific journals are available in a digital format.

The NSU Library main fund is located in a specially equipped book depository. Academic and scientific literature, the Fiction Department, the reading room, and the Reference and Information Service Department have their own supplementary Funds.

Since it was founded, the NSU Library has provided literature and information to all elements of the NSU educational process that is focused on the fusion of education and science. The principle for NSU Library catalog acquisitions is that they must support the scientific and educational process.

The Library catalog’s primary function to respond to user needs.

Currently, the library catalog is a collection of educational, scientific, fiction, and reference materials. It includes periodicals and informational digital publications, dissertations and abstracts of dissertations, and books in foreign languages.

The collection of books and journals in foreign languages includes 27,534 copies in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and other languages.  Individuals and various foreign organizations have donated most of this literature

The NSU Library includes approximately six thousand domestic and foreign publications from the 18th-early 20th centuries.

The Library is home to a number of commemorative book collections. Collections include books by the Parisian publisher YMCA-PRESS (France), books in Japanese donated by the Youth Chamber of Sapporo (Japan), and Notes by the Russian Academic Group (USA).

The Library catalog includes personal collections including books by Professor F. X. Kessidi (Greece), M. I. Riga, the oldest professor at NSU, and books from the first Dean of the NSU Humanities Department, corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences V.A. Avrorin, and others.

FUNDS ACQUISITION

The NSU Library funds acquisition thematic plan is the main document regulating acquisitions and determining the topics and types of material included in the catalog.

Currently, more than 8300 students are studying 63 subjects in six departments at three NSU institutes. Issues related to acquisitions for the university library funds are resolved through close contact between the Library and University departments. Representatives of departments inform Acquisition Department staff of changes in curriculum, provide lists of recommended material, and identify items to be deleted. The Acquisition Department provides subject based publisher plans and price lists for review. In recent years through agreements with book-sellers,  the Acquisition Department and representatives of NSU departments are given  samples of new educational and scientific literature so they have an opportunity to evaluate them.

The library has developed an application form for the purchase of educational material. The application must be certified by the head of the relevant department and include the author, the title of the book and the imprint, the subject the book is recommended for, and the number of students studying the subject.

Educational materials are purchased to provide each student with a minimum set of compulsory material for all subjects. The standards for the provision of educational material are determined by the Russian Federation Ministry of Education April 27, 2000 order No. 1246, "Model regulations on the formation of higher education institution book catalogs (Library)" and Ministry of Education order No 1623 from April 11, 2001, " On the approval of the minimum standards for the provision of an academic library and information resource base for higher educational institutions”.
